Independent review
When a timberland valuation is underwritten off an unverified inventory, when an investor must trust the inventory behind a manager's reported values, when a conservation buyer must defend an acquisition price to its board, or when a vendor's inventory product is about to be bought and relied on, someone has to vouch for the work underneath.
In land acquisitions and dispositions, we offer independent due diligence on the forest inventory data behind the deal, so that the uncertainty in the data is priced into the underwriting. For operating clients, we review inventory systems and audit projection and merchandising software.
When a client is weighing a remote sensing or small area estimation product, built internally or offered by a vendor, we evaluate it from the buy side. Anyone can check predictions against ground measurements. The real test requires knowing the inner workings: where the model or system will fail, and whether the risk it carries is predictable, acceptable, and manageable.
We have no product to sell, no acreage to defend, and no career stake in the answer.
Strategy
Every forest inventory system is an accumulation of history: projection and merchandising systems built decades ago, vendors and products spliced in over time, precision targets nobody has questioned in years and whose true cost no one knows. We help leadership decide what systems to keep, what to build internally, what to outsource and which vendors to trust, and what to stop doing outright.
Often the largest gains are in estimation itself: more precision from the inventory a client already has, drawn from the low-cost data sources that now blanket every forest (our field calls this small area estimation).
For forest-tech platforms, we shape products around what large industry buyers actually need, in single engagements or a standing role, because we have sat on that side of the table.
Design and build
When the tool a problem calls for does not exist, we design and build it: estimation methods, models, and production software, made to be owned. We take this work on selectively. We have built and rebuilt inventory systems ourselves, and we run AI-assisted development under human review every day.
Documentation, maintainability, and handover are part of the work, not extras. What we deliver runs on the client's systems and stays in the client's hands after we leave.
How we work
In every engagement, we work so that the client can eventually do without us. We are not surrogate employees, we do not sell software products, and we do not put our name on conclusions already reached.
