Independent review, design, and strategy for the forest inventory and biometric systems supporting timberland investment and forest management decisions.

From the principal
In my time working in the timberland investment industry, I led the biometrics and inventory work supporting institutional forestland investment across four countries, and I rebuilt the growth, merchandising, and estimation systems that key investment decisions and ground operations both run on. An acquisition, once closed, is final: the numbers underneath it deserve scrutiny before the deal, not after.
The experience is wider than one industry: small area estimation research, rFIA (an open-source tool the field still uses), and companies of my own. Siskiyou Biometrics is the independent practice founded on all of it. I tell clients what their data can and cannot support, and I design the methods and systems that do not exist off the shelf.

Services
Independent review We offer due diligence on the forest inventory data behind acquisitions and dispositions, review of the inventory behind a manager's reported values, and review for a conservation buyer defending an acquisition price to its board. We also evaluate remote sensing and small area estimation products from the buy side.
Strategy We help leadership decide what systems to keep, what to build internally, what to outsource and which vendors to trust, and what to stop doing outright. For forest-tech platforms, we shape products around what large industry buyers actually need, in single engagements or a standing role.
Design and build Where nothing off the shelf fits, we design and build estimation methods, models, and production software. Documentation, maintainability, and handover are part of the work, not extras. What we deliver runs on the client's systems and stays in the client's hands.
We have no product to sell, no acreage to defend, and no career stake in the answer.
Who we serve
The practice is small by design, built for timberland investors and managers, conservation organizations that acquire and steward working forests, federal and state agencies, universities and research groups, and forest-tech firms building the field's next tools.
